"I've been doing this for 10 years now..."

What was your journey as a tattoo artist??

I was in high school at the time around the age of 16 when I first became interested in a career as a Tattoo Artist after getting my first tattoo - dedicated to my Nana. I then went on to study a Batchelor of Fine Arts in Wellington, but after one year I left, as I was lucky enough given the opportunity to apprentice at Taupou Tatau Tattoo Studio (Wellington, NZ) where I developed an advanced skillset in linework based tattooing - primarily through Polynesian and Māori inspired art – That was the beginning on my journey.

What's your tattoo studio's vibe?

Professional, clean, and welcoming. I would describe Tattoo Gold as a high class premium studio. We take great pride in giving our customers the best possible tattoo experience. We have 10 amazing artists who all specialise in different styles - come and see for yourself!

What is your tattoo style and inspiration?

I am currently focusing on different forms of black and grey realistic tattooing, whether that be through soft shading, or textures. I also do a lot of fine line and blackwork style of tattooing. Some of my inspiration comes from social media, I like to see what’s happening around the world, what’s trending, and how I can do certain things better or different. I find myself doing a lot of birds and florals but at the end of the day anything that is going to give me a good challenge, big or small - I enjoy working with.

What are your favourite pieces to tattoo on people?

Anything that helps my client feel special, confident, or heals them in a way.

I have had the privilege of working with many amazing customers so generally any subject matter that gives a feel-good moment is a win and favourite for me. Nothing beats watching them look into the mirror for the first time and you know you have changed someone’s life for the better.

What happens in your spare time?

Fishing, a lot of fishing.

Advice for a tattoo first timer?

Definitely put the time into researching and choosing the right professional artist that specializes in something that you want to get done. Don’t rush, enjoy the process, tattooing is special.
